Children and Pets FAQ
Some of the most important members of your family may be small, furry, excited, unpredictable, or all four.
Children and well-behaved pets may be included in your Wedding Ceremony and photographs with advance planning. They can walk down the aisle, carry the rings, join family vows, participate in a unity ceremony, or simply be there to celebrate with you.
And depending on the day, you may also get to meet our dogs, Yuki and Niko, who take their chapel-greeting responsibilities very seriously.
Are Children Welcome at the Wedding Chapel?
Absolutely. Children are welcome at the Cute Little Wedding Chapel.
They may participate in the ceremony, sit with guests, stand beside the couple, walk down the aisle, carry the rings, hold flowers, give a reading, or join a family vow or unity ceremony.
They are also welcome to simply be children. If a baby cries or a toddler waves at everyone during the vows, we will keep the ceremony moving and make the moment part of the memory.
Do Children and Babies Count as Guests?
If a child or baby can sit safely on an adult's lap or remain in a stroller, they do not count toward the seated guest total.
If they need their own seat, then they do count as a guest.
Please still tell us how many children and babies will attend so we can prepare the space properly and recommend the correct package.
How Can Children Participate in the Ceremony?
Walk Down the Aisle
Children may walk alone, with another child, with an adult, or beside one of the people getting married.
Carry the Rings
A child may serve as the ring bearer and carry the rings, a ring box, or a decorative pillow.
Scatter Flower Petals
A flower girl or flower person may scatter artificial flower petals. Real flower petals are not permitted.
Give a Reading
An older child may share a short poem, blessing, letter, or meaningful reading during the ceremony.
Join Family Vows
Children may stand with the couple during promises that celebrate the family being formed or strengthened.
Participate in a Unity Ceremony
Children may add sand, tie a ribbon, help with a family keepsake, or join another symbolic ceremony element.
Can We Have a Flower Girl or Ring Bearer?
Yes. Flower girls and ring bearers are always welcome.
Or make Grandma the flower girl. Let’s make it fun.
Very young children may walk with an adult or be guided by an older sibling. We recommend giving young ring bearers decorative rings or securing the real rings safely to a box or pillow.
What Are Family Vows?
Family vows are promises made not only between the couple, but also to the children who are becoming part of the married family.
The couple may promise to love, support, encourage, protect, listen to, and continue building a home with their children.
Children may also respond with a simple promise, answer a question together, or receive a family keepsake.
Family vows can be heartfelt without becoming overly serious. Children generally appreciate knowing they are gaining a family, not signing a legally binding household chore agreement.
Can a Child Stand With Us During the Ceremony?
Yes. A child may stand beside the couple for part or all of the Wedding Ceremony.
They may also sit with a family member and come forward only for a special moment, such as the family vows, ring exchange, unity ceremony, or pronouncement.
Tell us the child's age and planned role before the wedding so the Wedding Officiant can explain what will happen in a simple and comfortable way.
Are Dogs Welcome at the Wedding Chapel?
Well-behaved dogs may be welcome with advance approval.
Tell us the dog's size, temperament, planned role, and whether the dog is comfortable around unfamiliar people, other animals, music, and new environments.
Dogs must remain under the control of a responsible adult and should be on a leash or secured appropriately unless they are being held for a photograph.
The person getting married should not be the only person responsible for the dog. You will be busy exchanging vows, rings, kisses, and possibly happy tears.
Can Our Dog Be Part of the Ceremony?
Yes, with advance approval and a realistic plan.
A dog may:
- Walk down the aisle
- Serve as a ring bearer
- Sit beside the couple
- Join a family vow or blessing
- Wear a wedding bandana, bow tie, floral collar, or approved outfit
- Participate in photographs
Use decorative rings for a dog ring bearer or secure the real rings extremely well. A marriage license can be reprinted. A ring swallowed by a Labrador creates a much more complicated wedding story.
Can Other Pets Attend?
Possibly, with advance approval.
Tell us what kind of pet you want to bring, how the animal will be safely transported, and who will be responsible for it.
The decision depends on the animal, the ceremony space, building rules, guest safety, sanitation, and the day's schedule.
Please do not arrive with an unannounced cat, bird, rabbit, reptile, or emotional-support alpaca and assume we will figure it out at check-in.
Can Pets Be Included in Wedding Photographs?
Yes. Approved pets may be included in ceremony and posed photographs.
Bring a leash, treats, waste bags, water, and someone who knows how to get the pet's attention. A favorite squeaky toy can be more effective than an entire photography degree.
Pet photographs work best when they are planned early in the photo session, before the animal becomes tired, distracted, or convinced that the bouquet is a snack.
Who Is Responsible for the Pet?
The couple must designate a responsible adult to supervise the pet before, during, and after the ceremony.
That person should handle the leash, cleanup, water, treats, transportation, and taking the animal outside if it becomes restless or disruptive.
The handler should not have another major ceremony responsibility that would prevent them from caring for the pet.
What If Our Pet Becomes Noisy or Uncomfortable?
The handler should quietly take the pet outside or to an approved waiting area.
Pets may react differently to music, applause, strangers, camera flashes, decorations, or an unfamiliar space. Have a backup plan and never force an animal to remain in a situation that is making it uncomfortable.
A bark during the vows is funny. Fifteen minutes of barking is the dog's way of requesting a different venue.
Will We Meet Yuki and Niko?
You may get to meet our dogs, Yuki and Niko, depending on the day and their schedule.
They are part of the Cute Little Wedding Chapel family and may be around to greet couples, supervise the excitement, or make sure everyone understands that treats are an important part of marriage.
We cannot promise they will be present for every appointment, but if they are, they may happily say hello.
What Should We Bring for a Child?
- A quiet snack or drink
- A favorite small toy or comfort item
- Any clothing or accessories needed for the ceremony
- The ring pillow, flower basket, or reading
- A stroller when helpful
- A trusted adult who can assist if the child needs a break
Avoid toys with loud sounds, glitter, loose pieces, or anything likely to roll directly under the Wedding Officiant's feet.
What Should We Bring for a Pet?
- A secure leash or carrier
- Waste bags and cleanup supplies
- Water and a small bowl
- Treats
- A towel or blanket when needed
- Any approved wedding outfit or accessory
- A designated adult handler
Please make sure the pet has had an opportunity to walk, use the bathroom, and settle down before entering the chapel.
